We've brought the 1800's mansion back to its purpose.....
in the dining room, Dr. Kinghorn entertained luminaries of his day who came to the hamlet of Saranac Lake to establish and preserve a living shrine to the beloved author Robert Louis Stevenson, among them were William Morris,Will Low (artist and friend of Stevenson), Rabbi Stephen Wise (founder of the Reform Movement). and Gutzom Borglum (fashioner of Mount Rushmore).

Antiques abound and pictures of a R.L.S. history appoint the walls; the place is resonant with presences and all the aspects of the healing nature unique to the environment Saranac Lake. Right across the street is Dr. Trudeau's laboratory and up the hill the "hat box on the hill" where R.L.S. spent the winter of 1887-88. When the cottage is open it one absolutely must visit third generation curator in residence Mike Delahant for a tour of The Robert Louis Stevenson Museum and Cottage. (518) 891-1462
It was Dr. Kinghorn who appointed John Delahant Sr., Mike's grandfather to be guardian of the museum dedicated to the author. Mike continues the sacred inheritance as Stevenson would have wanted it to be, and it is truly a living work of art. The Shrine to Stevenson is now maintained as was intended by the mission of Dr. Kinghorn and its original founders. Housed within the "hunter's home" is an astonishing R.L.S. collection.
It is a joy to be in the Adirondacks; it is restorative to be influenced by the master of courage and adventure.
This is our purposeful labour of love.
We look forward to seeing you here and setting the table for you.
